Ten years old, son of a stone cutter. He's never going to shine through his bravery but he can rely on his stories to win friends.

Also ten years old, the son of a Greek olive merchant. Quick-witted, he's Imeni's best friend and often has to think for both of them.

Another ten year old! Poverty forced her mother to sell her to the landloard of an ale house. She loves poking fun at other people, but she doesn't like people taking the mickey out of her!

Little, sandy-coloured desert fox, adopted by Antinios. He takes pleasure in nipping ankles.
